The classroom music teacher is Miss Danielle Blatch.  Aitkenvale students have music lessons during school times and these weekly lessons are part of an seven year program that feeds into high school. Music is one strand of the Arts Syllabus and as such, is part of one of the Key Learning Areas from years one to ten. The students may also chose to be in one of the performing groups including the Instrumental Program, Junior Choir and Senior Choir.

Events:

  • Choral Workshop – a district event offered to year 5 and 6 students who participate in Senior Choir. These students are selected to work with other Townsville students across the district who work with a highly regarded Australian children’s conductor.
  • ABODA workshops – for brass, woodwind and perucssion instrumental students.
  • Celebration of Strings – for beginning and continuing string students.
  • Aitkenvale’s Got Talent – begins in Term 3. There are Lower and Upper school sections.  Students are encouraged to perform their greatest talent individually or as a group.
  • Music: Count Us In – a Australian Government initiative to promote music in schools. 2015 will be our fifth year participating in this national event.
  • Christmas Concert – an exciting way to bring the school year to an end with our students performing a range of Christmas songs to bring a smile to all. The Christmas Concert is held on the final Tuesday of the school year.
